What Makes Swansea Brilliant for Students?
Starting your uni life in Swansea in September? You’ll no doubt be excited to find out what the city has in store for you! Home to two universities, Swansea is a bustling, friendly, student city with lots to offer, from a city-side beach to super-fun nightlife and stunning scenery all around. Let’s take a closer look at just what makes Swansea so brilliant for students…
A beach on your doorstep
Just a short walk away from Swansea University, you’ll find Swansea Bay beach. These five miles of golden sand stretch all the way to the quirky seaside village of Mumbles (stop off here for an ice cream at Joe’s). Whether it’s a game of footie on the sand, a run along the promenade or a morning coffee watching the sunrise, it’s the perfect place to relax after a day of studying or to blow away the cobwebs from the night before!

Good transport links
Getting to lectures couldn't be easier, thanks to Swansea's dedicated UniBus service, which connects the campuses and city centre and stops right outside true student Swansea accommodation. You can also enjoy heavily discounted fares on the rest of the bus network, making it cheap and easy to get around the whole city. For days out further afield, there are direct trains to Cardiff, London, Bristol and Manchester.
Outdoor adventures just a short drive away
Want to escape the city for a while? The diverse and stunning landscapes of Gower are right on your doorstep and ready to be explored. The rolling hills and dramatic clifftops of this gorgeous peninsula offer up bracing walks and scenic bike rides. Take beers and some snacks for the perfect beach day at picture-postcard Rhossili Bay or catch some waves on your bodyboard at Llangennith or Langland.
You're spoilt for nightlife
When it comes to post-study socialising, there’s no shortage of places to hang out with friends in Swansea. Wind Street is the hub of student nightlife and home to fave chains like Popworld and Coyote Ugly, as well as independent venues, such as Bonnie Rogues for sports, No Sign Bar for drinks offers, live music and their weekly pub quiz, and Bambu bar for cocktails and karaoke. Away from Wind Street, check out Thursday nights at Sin City for cheap drinks and banging beats. It regularly hosts live music events too.

The sports facilities are top notch
Whether you’re into Hyrox, padel, football or hockey, Swansea Bay Sports Park is right next to Swansea University’s Singleton Park Campus and features a state-of-the-art gym, 3G pitches, indoor courts and an 8-lane, 50-metre pool. The centre offers heavily discounted rates for students. And on days when you just want a bit of fun, head to LC Swansea in the city centre. It has Wales’ largest indoor waterpark, complete with a wave pool, lazy river, slides and an indoor surf machine.
