Luckily, Sheffield has got some great events to immerse yourself in. From crazy Christmas bingo to traditional markets, here are some super-fun ways for Sheffield students to kick off the party season.
Bingo Lingo - The Christmas Special
8 December
All Sheffield students should (ahem) tick off a visit to this turbo-charged bingo night at least once. An event where dabbing the right numbers comes second to all the craziness in between (think silly Santas, epic dance-offs and Christmas singalongs), this night is guaranteed to be a highlight of your festive season — plus there’s lots of prizes too! So don those Christmas jumpers, grab your mates and get your dabbers at the ready.

Sheffield Christmas Market
13 November - 24 December
There’s nothing more likely to get you in the festive spirit than a Christmas market. It’s the perfect opportunity to wrap up and stroll around with a glass of something warm and intoxicating! Sheffield’s Christmas market has over 60 independent traders purveying handcrafted gifts and delicious treats, including Dutch pancakes and churros. Enjoy the twinkling lights and a ride on the big wheel before retreating into the Alpine lodge for a bratwurst and a refreshing stein.
Where: Sheffield City Centre, across Fargate, Pinstone Street and The Moor

Light Up Sheffield
5 - 14 December
For the first time ever, three of Sheffield’s iconic landmarks will be illuminated with stunning light projections. Created in collaboration with local artists, this project aims to celebrate the city’s heritage and creativity. Head over to Pounds Park to see street artist Peachzz’s mural Reverie brought to life with dazzling digital effects. Sheffield Cathedral will be lit up with a projection by Pete McKee, while inside, you’ll find over 40 Christmas trees decorated by local charities. It’s all free and sure to light up your festive season.

Sheffield Carols at the Winter Garden
14 December, 2pm to 4.30pm
A carol service with a twist, the Sheffield Carols predate the more familiar festive tunes by more than a century. Written by local craftsmen and once sung in churches, they were eventually relegated to pubs in favour of more traditional carols. Soundpost, an artist-led organisation that explores folk traditions, will be leading a singalong of these alternative carols. Set among the Christmas trees at the Winter Garden, it’s sure to induce the required amount of festive cheer.
