When the weather outside is frightful, is there anything better than hunkering down in a cosy pub, complete with roaring fire and a glass of something delicious? Luckily, Leicester has loads of cosy pubs to choose from, all close to your true student accommodation. Perfect for whiling away an hour or two (or three or four), here’s our pick of the best cosy pubs in Leicester.

The Castle

Tucked inside the old castle walls along Leicester’s cobbled streets, this charming micropub is the very definition of cosy. Once a Grade II listed cottage, its inviting interior mixes soft lighting, low, beamed ceilings, rustic wooden bar and candlelit tables to provide the perfect backdrop for an intimate evening with your besties. There are new craft beers to try each week, plus a range of freshly made samosas, pork pies, cobs and scotch eggs to soak it all up.

The King’s Head

Traditional and welcoming, this Georgian-era pub in the heart of Leicester is a must for cask-ale lovers. Set in a Georgian building, it’s got all the charm you’d want from a classic pub, with hand-pulled ales, a roaring fire and cosy banquette seating perfect for huddling into for a game of cards or dominoes.

The Globe

Leicester’s oldest pub makes for a truly cosy winter retreat. Now serving mulled wine and cider, plus a range of boozy hot chocolates and coffees, it’s the place to warm up and linger. Inside, you’ll find plenty of inviting features, including red brick floors, wooden beams and a real fire. Make a beeline for the Snug. With its rich dark panelling, leather banquette seating and comfy cushions, it’s perfect for whiling the hours away over a board game.

The Gadabout

If cocktails are more your style, head to this intimate bar near the Guild Hall. As well as the classic cocktails, there’s a delicious menu of more unique libations inspired by iconic movies. Upstairs, the décor is bold and quirky with hot pinks, sultry purples and painted murals, while the warren of rooms means you’ll always find a cosy nook. Or head downstairs to the Cave, where a sloped brick ceiling and comfy booths create a more intimate vibe. Perfect for cosy twosomes or chilled group get-togethers, it’s a great way to start (or end) the night.
