Our international student guest Pooja, gives an insight into what her acceptance to study at Newcastle University was like and how she went through the student accommodation search process to find true Student Living...

By Early February 2019, fate smiled upon me as I received my acceptance to study my master’s at Newcastle University. Ranked among the top-most universities world-wide and situated in a vibrant, student-friendly city, the decision to accept the admission offer was effortless. What came next was planning my life in this beautiful city. As an international student, I was looking to find my home away from home, which is exactly what I found at true Newcastle.

Being a meticulous person, I made a spreadsheet about the different types of accommodation facilities offered to students including the university dorms, shared housing and private student accommodation. I found that although the university dorms are close to the university, they lacked in facilities and were expensive. Shared housing would’ve been a great choice, because there are plenty of affordable and huge houses all around Newcastle, but I wasn’t completely sold on the idea of living with total strangers in the same house. Besides, utilities are usually paid separately, which means I’d have a bunch of extra bills like electricity, TV license, water, contents insurance and so on to pay every month.

I then turned to private student accommodation which I felt was much more suited to student life. I wanted to live near the Quayside, since the Tyne Bridge is one of the most stunning views of Newcastle. My search thus led me to true Student. Only a 10-minute walk from the Quayside, a 20-minute walk from the university, all bills included with plenty of choices between shared apartments and studio suites - these were attractive features, but what drew me most towards true Studing Living was the hospitality. The true team were always at my beck and call, offered complimentary airport pick-up services and provided me with a huge (and free) welcome pack which included everything I needed while moving in.

Being a student is all about experiencing new things. Apart from providing me with a room clean and safe environment, true organises various activities for its residents. From boxing sessions and horse-riding lessons to spa days, trips, parties, yoga and many more activities, there’s always something for everyone at true Student Living. This is what sets true apart from other accommodations. Being a part of these activities has exposed me to so many exciting experiences and improved my inter-personal skills. At true, I always have something to look forward to when I come back from uni and I’ve loved living my ‘true’ life at Newcastle!
