Leicester – We Are Coming For You!

We are super excited to announce that true Student Living will be opening a new development in a landmark building in the centre of Leicester! Situated on Rutland Street, it is just a stone’s throw away from the central train station and the iconic Clock Tower! We will have 470-bedrooms and are currently working on our build schedule, so watch out for further announcements on our opening date!
We’ve already commenced work on the historic but derelict building, formerly the grand headquarters of shoe manufacturer, Freeman Hardy & Willis, and subject to significant damage during WW2 bombing raids before post-war reconstruction. But, it was most recently home to the International Hotel and has been empty since 2009. The re-development will bring this building back to life and we cannot wait to welcome students from both De Montfort University and the University of Leicester, which are both less than a mile and half away!
City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby said: “It’s good news that this landmark building – which has stood empty and derelict for far too long – is set to be redeveloped and brought back into use. The site has been an eyesore for many years and its planned conversion into new student flats will make a valuable contribution to the ongoing regeneration of this important part of the city centre.”
Ben Morley, Managing Director of true Student said: “We’re very excited to be bringing our award-winning offer to Leicester. A key differentiator for us is our innovative ‘true life’ programme. Partnering closely with the local community and businesses, we offer our guests amazing opportunities and experiences that boost wellbeing, personal networks and life-skills, so our guests feel energised, connected and inspired. Each week we offer a range of activities, such as photography workshops, power brunches, nutritional support, day trips, and team challenges.”
